I remember having this as well. I certainly gives PvMers (especially the poor noobs) more opportunity to insulate themselves/react to pop-up gank squads.

I agree. Old UO had reds, but they weren't overrunning all PvM activity. They were often a select group of skilled people who took on significant risk due to substantial stat loss. Some were definitely griefers, but most were focused on building a name and bounty on their head. And they were...
This is an interesting point - and has truth to it. If I had a red and there was no penalty, I think I would be more adventurous and run solo very often. But if there's a heavy penalty, I'd definitely would only go out when there's near guarantee of safety/success.

Maybe I'm messing up the placement tool, but I feel like I can't find any 7x7 spots. The ones I do find that look like they could fit, I keep getting the placement error no matter how many times I play with the positioning. Bit annoying as a new player, but I guess them's the breaks.

Not really new to UO (played since '97) but am new to UO Forever.
